The Amelia/Isabelle dynamics have a lot of "the only toy that will make me happy is the one that you are playing with right now". However, Amelia is able to negotiate (Isabelle, not so much yet). In exchange for letting Isabelle play with the Easter Bird, I gave Amelia a Larry the Cucumber toy -- and then, hours later, when there was more angst about the Easter Bird, I reminded Amelia of the bargain and she immediately stopped being sad about it. While I am not surprised that the first exchange worked, the second one impressed me.

Good point: the cucumber proved to be a sharable toy.
Bad point: cucumbers are not the most durable of toys, and by the second day, needed some first aid.

(I really need to reorganize the niece pictures so they're not in separate directories...)

You've given your nieces *produce* to play with?

Surely that violates some sort of "don't play with your food" rule? :)

Just for reference, Isabelle, who's watching me play with the computer (it is exciting because it has pictures of her on it, and occasional movies) approves of your icon. "COW!"

It has been decreed that the cucumber is not to be eaten, but if he gets too squishy, it is okay if we throw him away.

Oh, and small vegetables have always been considered cute toys. :) ("Most families, if the kid's favorite pet was a potato, that would be because they weren't allowed to have animals. Here, it's just because the potatoes are the most portable of the animals...")

Your nieces are awesome.

And I use this icon on the off chance it too will be considered noteworthy. :)

Isabelle is not up to reading yet, let alone knowing the cultural significance of the acronyms, but she does like the people, and says they are "funny guys". :)

So Larry went into the refrigerator last night to 'take a nap and heal' and LO- he came out this morning a little shorter, much more firm, and best- he did not need a bandaid anymore- the crack had healed! Bandaids are great, even for produce. Larry's eyes kept falling off, which was very disturbing for Amelia, so we did need to use some tape for that. A little worrisome is this afternoon, we cannot find Larry or Bob, and I am somewhat worried that they will soon be festering somewhere in the house. I don't *think* Toby would eat them.....
