I decided to try making the Skew Socks again, but this time on one size up needles, to see if they would fit my big feet. They do, and with a little extra room (maybe more than is perfect, but close enough). I like this pattern for the wild multicolor yarn - crazy yarn is often really nice looking, but often garbles interesting patterns. Similarly, I made some baby legwarmers on a larger size needle for Baby S, which more or less fit her.



Now, since we seem to have run out of summer with a resounding Splat, time to finish up the shumashi sweater (it's fuzzy and warm to sit with, so I stopped for the summer).

How do you do the heel on the skew socks? I tried making up a pattern similar to that, but the topology of the heal confused me.

Ah, I would not have guessed that but it makes sense.

It got to the part where the whole sweater is sewn together, and needs the collar done, so it's this Great Big Fuzzy Warm Thing. Just a sleeve was okay even when it was hot. (Alpaca is light but warm).

I do not actually grok how it all fits together, but it does seem to work. Basically, there's a bunch of increases, and then you kitchener together 15 stitches with 15 others, so you've got this fold which turns into the heel. It ends up being a little bit of a point, but not really more of one than the corners of a toe on top-down socks.

Actually, it's a lot like a top-down kitchener-sewn toe, now that I think about it. A short-row toe is made the same way as a short-row heel! It all makes sense now! A little. :)

Yeah, variagated yarn makes plain stitches with interesting lines fascinating, where it becomes a jumbled mess of colors on a complicated stitch. :) Nifty socks!
