This year's Christmas trip with my family was to Savannah. It was really a lovely city - very walkable (well, okay, I kept hurting my foot by walking five miles, but that covered the downtown), full of Spanish moss and friendly people, and Squares. These are not like Boston squares, which are an intersection with a sign - these are square rotaries plumped in the middle of main streets so you have to drive around them or walk through them. The traditional socks and things went over well, but there was also clamoring for scarves, which involved yarn store shopping (yay!) - the nieces got some ridiculously fluffy things which they adored, and Jess got a rainbow scarf that I didn't finish until a couple of days ago and needs to be mailed. Amelia did a lot of helping knit, her with the yarn and me with the needles - I think soon I should be able to teach her to knit for real.
I tried to make it another iPad-only (no computer, no books) trip, which ran into some trouble when the nieces realized that my iPad had MORE GAMES than theirs did. Here, an adorable picture of all three nieces - Aedlin is clearly intrigued but has been told to not touch, so she's being surprisingly good.
