Before paying my credit card bill on line, I checked to make sure everything looked familiar. There were a couple of mysterious AOL charges that were, well, mysterious. I don't use AOL (except AIM, which should be free), but maybe it's become the marketplace front-end for some other little company I bought something from? Not like there's enough information on the statement to tell. So (at the urging of -c help), I call the credit card people, who transfer me to AOL, who says "Hello, hello? I can't hear you. If you're calling from a cell phone, please call back from a land line" and hang up on me. Not so helpful. :)
So I call the credit card people back, and state more unequivocally that this is not my charge, and get transferred to the Security Department, where they make me explicitly say that I think my account has been compromised. And then they ask if I tried to make an $840 money transfer (no) or buy something from Catalyst Software, twice (no). They agree that my account is compromised, and will send me a new card.
Now, the thing I'm curious about is why the whole "someone using your credit card number tried to transfer $840" thing didn't come up earlier in this process. I can't really complain that they didn't tell me about it, since they also seemed to not be charging me for it, but it's still odd.
An Amusement
I ordered new glasses yesterday afternoon, and picked frames with thin frame on top of the lenses (not like the twisted-wire octagons I had before). Yesterday evening,![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
harrock showed up with his new glasses, which have thin frame on top of the lenses. Hey, I say - those look a lot like the glasses I ordered. harrock points out that they look like tirinian's glasses. Hmm. So they do.
From yesterday: "I think it's funny that after so many years together, you still fight over the game-playing computer." "That's the official shared computer!" There are five computers in the house, but still, one is officially for tirinian and I to timeshare for games. It wouldn't be as interesting if we each had one.
