Back from Christmas travels

Christmas Part II was fun. About half of the visitors (me, Erik, Lew) started out sick, and the other half decided to get sick later; I feel kind of bad for the number of germs we will have left behind in California. [livejournal.com profile] harrock and I managed to meet [livejournal.com profile] tallou and [livejournal.com profile] jofish22 for dinner with the Absolete Bestest Crepes Ever before succumbing to being sniffly slugs around the house. (Other California people we didn't see, sorry!)

Niece updates: Amelia's new obsession is bugs. Especially praying mantises and dragonflies and crickets. The pair of them together, however, are obsessed with Wall-E (or, in Isabelle's case, Burn-E[*]). They continue to be the Cutest Little Kids Ever.

Here we are burying them in the front yard:

*: Burn-E is the welder-bot who stars in a short feature on the DVD.

Wait, you're allowed to make giant holes *in the yard*? I've only ever seen that done at the beach! Wait 'till I tell pika!

Well, the holes were eventually going to be for planting a tree (here (http://web.mit.edu/boojum/Pix/Trips/Xmas2008/tn/IMG_4449.JPG.html)). I think digging holes in the yard is still allowed anyway, though. But their little shovels probably wouldn't get quite so large holes.

Little shovels like that are perfectly fine for digging giant holes. It just takes a little dedication.

Oh, also, I got mocked for digging a square hole! I was put in charge of digging one of the holes while Jess went to get more compost, and when she got back with the wheelbarrow, she looked at it all funny.

"You dug a square hole! Why did you dig a square hole?"
"You told me the hole should be a few inches larger than the gopher cage! The gopher cage is square!"

Makes sense to me!

I'm sure future archeologists will assume my back yard in Albany was some sort of ritual burial area given how many giant holes were dug and refilled. Often with some strange totem or something placed at the bottom.

I'm imagining obsolete crêpes. :-) Where did you go? I noticed that Crêpes a go go in Berkeley (the first US crêpe joint I ever visited) now has two locations. Made me feel a bit nostalgic, but didn't actually have time to visit again.

Ti Couz in San Francisco (as suggested by [livejournal.com profile] justom, though he only gets partial suggestion credit because [livejournal.com profile] tallou had already been there.)

(Hee, I think I will refrain from fixing the typo, because it's funnier that way.)

Ti Couz? We love that place! :-)
It's usually majorly crowded though. Did you manage to get a seat quickly?

[identity profile] firstfrost.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
It is not very crowded at all on early Tuesday nights, I guess. :)

Fun pictures! Thanks for sharing them.
