There's an art installation in a lobby in Canary Wharf - it's advertised all over the windows - called "knit one purl one". It's three very long knitted ropes in primary colors, each of them in its own glass box, along with pictures of the ropes wandering around the building. All fine, I suppose, if a little to modern-art for me (in that "I guess this could be meaningful, but I don't quite get it" way). But there was this commentary about people chanting "knit one purl one" to themselves as they knit (I don't actually think anyone has to chant that for very long)... but the ropes aren't in K1P1 ribbing! They're in stockinette! I find this grievously wrong.

Maybe they meant, knit 1 (row), purl 1 (row)? Except you'd be even less likely chanting that to yourself. So I'd have to agree with you: it's Just Wrong.

How hard could it have been to do ribbing instead of stockinette, anyway?

You should look around for a plaque saying who sponsored it or something, and then send them your comments. They'll just keep funding this stuff unless people speak up.
