Today while [livejournal.com profile] harrock cooks his seven deadly lasagnas, I'm off to the Cambridge Science Festival, where I was recruited onto a Math and Knitting project. I'm bringing the Escher Sweater (Mike's) and a Klein Hat that the nieces usually wear, and I also made some sample mobius scarves and crochet surfaces.

Yesterday, we went and got a bunch of flowers for the front garden. I get to wander around pointing out interesting new plants and then Jerry puts them in the ground and makes it all kind of cohere. We're slowly phasing in more annuals, and perhaps this year we'll remember to take cuttings of the coleus before it freezes.

A few weeks ago, someone asked one of the IT mailing lists I'm on about album software, and I mentioned "album", the perl script I use, and used my photo album as an example. The asker seems to have settled on using something else, but several different people commented on my knitting projects, and one co-worker was enamored of my original grumpasaurus. So I made one for him.

Argh, I completely forgot about the math and Science fair. I thought the kids would like it. Then again, the in-laws were leaving today, so it would have been confusing. What was math and knitting project?

Ok, the Grumpasaurus is SO cool!!!!!

This was the opening weekend - it's like a ten-day, runs Friday through the Sunday the weekend after, so you have more time to go.

The hands-on part of math/knitting was Knitting Your Own Mobius Scarf, which was fun but a little tricksy. A couple of the people who came brought their own that they had made, which was fun to see, and then they also helped people with theirs, which was great! :)

I remembered it being longer, but I thought some things were only on during opening weekend. Will try and see it anyway, does it look like it would be fun for a 9 and 7 year old? (who admittedly like science and math respectively)

It's a whole bunch of independent activities, and I honestly don't know anything about any of them other than the one I got recruited for. :) On the other hand, wandering around the MIT museum seems like it would be fun.

has a schedule of events, and it looks like there's things that I'd think were fun at 9 and 7, like flying robots. :)
