That intersection you passed me at, where I was waiting at the curb? The one where you ran out into the intersection, you and the baby in the jogging stroller, right in front of the car? I know it's a small intersection, a lot of people expect a stop sign there. It's not a stop sign. That car that stopped for you, the one you weren't looking at, it had a green light.

Mass Ave and Front Street, near N42. Front St. is a teeny street, and doesn't deserve a signal. But it's across from Landsdowne St, which is larger, so it's part of a four-way signal.

Oy. Even in CA where pedestrians get the right of way a lot, the pedestrians need to look.

I hate people who use their baby strollers as test balloons to see if it is safe for them to step out into the street without looking. This is not an evolutionally favored strategy, but before Darwin catches up with them it causes a lot of stress in nearby people.

And you're rolling the dice on three lives - you, the kid, and the driver who won't die but might end up wishing he had.

You know, I find that cars are much more willing to stop and let me cross when I have the stroller than when I'm solo, but I test this by standing with the stroller at the edge of the curb. Some people are still dangerous jerks, and there have been times when I have been crossing Powderhouse and had cars come speeding up obliviously while I've been in the crosswalk with the stroller. Personally my babies are far to precious to use to test driver reflexes, but perhaps your jogger feels differently about their baby.
