Barter Socks

I finished these socks just before New Year:

They're for [livejournal.com profile] gilana (whose lovely foot is featured in the second picture, modeling the sock at Tosci's, our Official Meeting Place); I made them for her in exchange for her making THIS AMAZING ILLUSTRATED POEM for me (the poem is Neil Gaiman's "Instructions", which I love dearly, and now I can hang it on the wall...). Like all good trades, I think we're both way happier with what we got than what we started with. :)

Yay! I was admiring the poem the last time I was there. :)

Those are both gorgeous!

Indeed, I think we totally both win -- I had fun getting to make the poem, and I love the socks, which are something I couldn't make myself!

Fabulous socks. I have pointed a friend who loves Dr. Who at them.

The original web page these came from no longer seems to be working, but it's a free download in Ravelry, so they can be found there. (There's another version of the socks that I more commonly find with google; I like this pattern a little better).

I'll have to see if I can manage to replicate them in crochet. I've been meaning for a while to design a pair of Tunisian crochet socks, these look like they might adapt well.

I just ran across Neil Gaiman "Instructions" as an illustrated children's book at the library. It was neat and the illustrations were pretty, but I didn't think it would necessarily make good reading for Juliette.
