Most of the checkouts in the CVS in Davis are self-serve now. This does not interact well when trying to buy the dangerous and illicit drug known as DayQuil, when I have to show a driver's license to the nonexistent attendant. I have never been so tempted in my (well, adult) life to shoplift as when I had been ready to leave for five minutes but it wouldn't let me pay.

I always have trouble at the supermarket trying to buy the crazy thing known as "loose produce". At least trying to by DayQuil you're actually a horrible criminal. Probably making meth as I type this.

Trying to buy more stuff than fits on the little bag scale doesn't go very gracefully, either. Lo, I have scanned and bagged the toilet paper, and removed it from the bagging area ... and now the weight is wrong when I scan and bag anything else, and the scanner throws a fit and requires staff intervention.

I've way down on my purchases at that CVS for exactly that reason. I hate the self-serve checkouts. They really just aren't smart enough.
