audible.com has given me a three month free gift membership (which mostly means three free audiobooks, plus discounts on anything beyond that) to give away, in the hopes of luring in new subscribers. (If you like audiobooks, the subscriptions take the cost down to not much more than a print book; the free books are free no matter how expensive. ). Anyone want it?

I am very slightly tempted, but don't read much these days. Any idea what kind of books are free with this plan?

Well, all the book reviews I've reviewed as audiobooks were from there. Lots of new stuff, lots of reasonably popular old stuff; not so much audio recordings of out of print books. Search on audible.com to see what they have and what they don't, from what you're interested in?

Unless you mean "which of their books are eligible to be free" in which case it's "all of them". The craziest one I've had listened to an audiobook for is Brandon Sanderson's Way of Kings. It's a thousand pages as a hard cover, 45 hours of audiobook, but still just one credit. :)

See, this is the sort of thing that makes me want to game the system and get the complete works of Shakespeare or the Encyclopedia Britannica for one credit, and then I'm stuck listening to over 9000 hours of Shakespeare regardless of how badly done the audiobook is. And I can't just quit because that would be Wasteful.

Luckily for you, the Riverside Shakespeare and the Encyclopedia Britannica have not been released as audiobooks.

(Though in my experience, the Encyclopedia Britannica is multiple books, not one book.)

I'm interested! Something to keep me entertained during the two hours I commute everyday sounds great.

Okay, I will declare that this beats "very slightly tempted" :) I do not think I have your current email address to send it to, unless I should use the alum address.

Excellent! I'd much rather it go to someone who can actually use it a lot. :-)

If you change your mind, I've got 3 more of these gift memberships left to give away. Apparently I'm their model customer...

I would be interested in trying it. I have done a few audiobooks. Keep wishing my device had a quick skip back like my TV though since I get interrupted often. Might work better on an exercise machine though, than the big book I am trying to read now.
