#upgoer5

Okay, this is fun. Idea yoinked from [livejournal.com profile] chanaleh.

I work for a school that helps people learn how things work and how to make things. The part of
the school I work in helps people with their computers. I help people who forget the key word
to get in to their computer (true horse power-box paper-put-together-thing!), or who need more
space to keep their computer stuff, or who need a different computer name for other people to
send them letters by computer. I also help people when some computer thing breaks and they don't
know why. I can't always fix their computers but I can often figure out what is broken and tell
them what to do. And sometimes I can even fix it for them.

The similarity between upgoer5 and ELI5 threw me for a moment...

Back in grad school I tried several times to explain my research to a non-sciency friend, and finally settled on "I try to make the internet faster". upgoer5 doesn't have "internet" though I think it should. :-)

I got most of it, but I didn't understand "(true horse power-box paper-put-together-thing!)" What did you mean?

That is a reference to this xkcd (http://xkcd.com/936/) which I have printed out on my wall.

I was hoping that "correct horse battery staple" would all be sufficiently easy words, but they weren't.
