The contractors are done. Whew.
A couple more pictures (pillar and third floor floor). And the furniture contines to ebb and flow.

So the old deteriorating bricks support column, was that replaced with the cement one or the lally? (What was the lally support column before?)

And now that I know what rotten bricks look like... I'm starting to worry about our chimney!

But wow. I'm impressed!

The old column that is pictured is the one that got coated with cement. The column that was replaced with the lally looked like that one, but worse (the deterioration went all the way down to the ground, and into the center). But I don't have a picture of it 'cause I forgot to start taking these pictures until after their first day. :)

(The fact that the bricks had crumbled some wasn't the disturbing part - that the bricks were still crumbly, so that you could scoop them out with your fingers was distressing!)

Wow! Looks great! What are the plans and timeframe for the third floor?

[livejournal.com profile] harrock is officially in charge of the renovations, but the basic idea is to have TV and some sofa-type furniture over on the L-shaped side for lounging and TV-watching and comfy RPG run space, and have a table and chairs on the side with the drawers, for board games and RPG bits that require a battlemap. The plan is to get them done in October/November.

(So far we've divided: [livejournal.com profile] harrock is construction and garden; I'm kitchen and housewares; [livejournal.com profile] tirinian is Social Chair and killing bugs.)

All should be done by December, since that's when the housewarming is. Aside from the floor, we have wall patching to do, and some ceiling replacement. (And some lighting improvements if I can get around to it).

Have to stare at that floor some, as I'm not clear that it's even enough for my taste. And figure out how to purge the omnipresent plaster dust from our lives.

My brain isn't quite back until Sunday, so I haven't worked out all of the details yet...

It's really too fine to vacuum; your best bet is probably to wipe down/wash/mop the walls and any other hard surfaces, and rent a carpet shampoo machine for the rugs.
