Bits and Pieces

Wednesday has become make-soup-for-leftovers night. This time was a ham and barley soup, a change from the different variants on beef stew. It was supposed to use ham hocks, but they creeped me out too much looking at them in the store. I'm probably a better adventurous eater than I am an adventurous cook, but things on bones always seem to be too much trouble.

The sweater for mjperson is slowly coming together and blocking upstairs, and in the meantime I'm starting socks which obviously have to be for shumashi. Maybe I can work through some of my boxes of yarn stash.

Oath Season Finale was Saturday. Mostly a bunch of combats, with a jeopardy mechanic for extra credit and several dramatic plot resolutions. In the end, though, it seemed very straightforward for the amount of work that went into it; the duplicate-timestream finale of Season 2 was (I think) more clever, and the dr-cain-wedding at the end of Season 3 had the nice plot twist. Still, there's not too much misdirection that is fair to do with a save-the-world ritual that the party has been prepping for for years. Now, though, (after getting over being exhausted) I'm somewhat at a loss for what to do with myself, without production to grind through and the players running around like mad things puttering with everything in sight.

Easter Egg Hunt was Sunday. (Mom promises more pictures; my camera batteries gave out on me.) This was the first time in the new house; there are certainly a lot more places to hide things than in the park (or in the Ibbetson St. upstairs). However, candy is clearly no longer the thing to put in the eggs - perhaps next year will include bulk dice from Chessex. Those were popular as wedding favors.

I feel like there should be more exclamation points in my anecdotes, but I'm still sort of devoid of exclamation points, having used them all up over the weekend.

I was thinking that the egg hunt might be a good sink for decorated (empty) shell eggs next year...

(or maybe the solution is just a lot less candy)

The fun part of that is decorating the eggs, rather than finding them, though! Hmm, Maybe hiding blank blown eggs and then having egg-decorating after finding them? That's a little non-standard, though. :)

Ooooh, decorating after sounds really cool to me. Not sure everyone's into crafts though. I just remembered the paint floating on oil thing. Wonder if that'd work well for eggs.

How about filling the eggs with puzzle pieces? Though I guess if an egg doesn't get found, it doesn't bode well for the puzzle.

Puzzle pieces is clever.

We've developed pretty good tracking by now that makes sure that eggs get found. A few years of "Well, we've found all but two eggs - I wonder where they are!" trained us pretty well. :)

I like the above-mentioned puzzles. Although with the seriously scary amount of prep you did for your run (wow!) I somehow suspect it could easily morph into the mother of all riddle trails.

Seemed like there were fewer guests this year than usual, and most ran off pretty quickly to dinners and whatnot, which I think leads to less candy being consumed, too. (But on the other hand, I think it's also fair to say that between people watching their weight and adult metabolisms just not being as into sugarsugarsugar as they once were, there probably is less demand for candy, too. :) )

Season Finale was indeed startlingly straightforward, but I think that's because a) the amount of stuff that had to be in it by pre-definition was so long that there wasn't room to add extra clever bits, and b) unlike the other season finales, we had been anticipating it for a long long time and had all sorts of ideas about it already. And really, it'd be hard to top season 2 for cleverness. :) But it was a fun run, and everyone seemed to be engaged for pretty much the whole time, and there were definitely some cool surprises in there, and a cliff or two to dangle us off of... Seems like a win to me. :)

And don't fear the ham hocks! They're sweet and innocent. :)

I vote for Dice! You can never have enough cool dice. I know I need more d12s for some reason...

I think Dylanna's role in the finale was cool. It was great to listen to Drew alternately cursing her and extoling her virtues.

I'm totally unclear what's going to happen with Mirris though. It;s hard to forgive being betrayed twice. At least she didn't abominate any Tinorri this time.

Yay, more socks! Did I remember to agitate for graduation socks, or do I just think I did?

I feel slightly guilty for asking for socks while I live in such warm climates where I mostly wear sandals. Though my firstfrost socks do get a lot of love when it's cold out. :)
