(no subject)

So, to [livejournal.com profile] dpolicar-like, drag a comment out of someone else's journal and wave it about...

Based on the Stanford study about politics and face-morphing...

Which of these would you vote for first?

(I admit, there's a specific data point I'm interested in)

I'm voting for the guy in the middle.

I think I prefer the one on the left, except there's something visually odd about the lighting or the morphing that makes it...um, harder to focus on, or something. :)

(Do tell us the punchline when you're done polling... :) )

[identity profile] chanaleh.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
Yicch. I'm having trouble coping with the idea of voting for any of them. ;-)

But, I don't know. I like the one in the middle the least. I think the one on the left best. He looks the most... Democrat-like.

(The one on the right looks rather eerily like my dad, the more I look at it... so I'm going to stop now.)

(I agree about the least/best. I would have phrased the difference as either "middle is most mainstream-culture-like, left is least" (which is possibly about the same as your assessment) or "middle is most male, left is most female." :) Also, the expressions look different enough to me that I interpret them as emoting different messages.)

[identity profile] twe.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
Good call, pulling that out, since my journal isn't public. :)

(For people who read both, vote before reading the coments in my journal.)

[identity profile] mijven.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
I think I'm going left too... although I agree with [livejournal.com profile] desireearmfeldt that that picture placed next to other ones looks odd. I can't tell if it's the morphing source or some blurring making it seem softer (more feminine?) too me. Guy on the right looks intellectual. Guy in the middle, well - I already know my opinion on him. ;)

Voting...

[identity profile] harrock.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm not voting for any of them, but I find the middle one most appealing. Every time I come up with a theory for why, I look more closely at the picture and decide the theory is bunk. :)

[identity profile] chenoameg.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
The one on the right. (As does the other person in the room with me.) We like the smile more.

[identity profile] seborn.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a freak; I'll take the one on the right, after staring hard.
The one in the middle looks vaguely brittle, and the one on the left just plain looks ill to me. Maybe it's the lighting.

middle

[identity profile] treptoplax.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 10:06 am (UTC)(link)
Middle, but not sure why. It may be that it registers as least wrong.

[identity profile] arcanology.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 10:28 am (UTC)(link)
Well, you know, the one on the left looks least like someone I already know not to trust with a ten cent bus fare. He could look like a small dog or a potted plant, that would be okay as long as it made him look less like that.

[identity profile] arcanology.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
You should redo the test with a more trustworthy base image.

I gotta go for the one in the middle, I think, if judging on nothing else. He looks more confident and more leaderlike to me.

But I think I'd rather hang out with the one on the right. He looks friendlier - which is not necessarily something I'd vote for first.

Well, Ok, I'd me most likely to vote for the guy on the left, 'cuz he doesn't look quite so much like GWBush. But that's not the question you're asking, I suspect.

Assuming all three of them are in fact Bush... (insert usual low-self-awareness verbiage about how of course I'm too sofistikated to fall for this kind of thing here)... probably the one in the middle.

Things I notice that seem related:
The one on the right is looking off to the side rather than directly at the camera. It makes him seem nervous on camera.
The one to the left is in too much shadow.
The one on the right also has the shadow problem, though less so.

[identity profile] astra-nomer.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
Assuming that there aren't ANY other choices at all, not even [livejournal.com profile] arcanology's potted plant...

I don't trust the guy in the middle.

I could go for the guys on either side, but have a slight preference for the guy on the left.

[identity profile] jdbakermn.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
The one on the left looks older and the shaodowing is a little strange. Perhaps weaker.

The one in the middle looks youngest and warm, powerful.

The one on the right looks, um, smarter, friendlier?

That said, I'd go with the one on the right.

[identity profile] countertorque.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 11:59 am (UTC)(link)
I find myself without an opinion. I can see differences, but none of them makes me feel like voting for one over the other.

Mark me down for the middle guy, I guess.

Wasn't one of the pictures supposed to be Kerry?

[identity profile] firstfrost.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if I were doing an actual controlled experiment, one of the pictures would be Kerry. But I'm just doing a messing-around experiment. :)

Voted

I vote for number 3.

[identity profile] ricedog.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
before reading the 19 other comments, the middle one.

I would go with the middle one. The one on the right has shifty eyes that I don't trust.

What an UGLY TIE!!!!

My Vote

[identity profile] baronet.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
The guy on the right feels best to me.

[identity profile] ironrat.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
The middle one. He's the strongest leader of the three, as well as the most compassionate. (No really...)

Well well well

[identity profile] kirisutogomen.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
The first guy has obviously been the victim of a tragic morphing accident involving someone with a completely differently shaped face. The middle guy looks like a used-car salesman. I'm going with the guy on the right.

I vote right.

[identity profile] tirinian.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
The guy on the left looks wrong, he's just not as well morphed. I tend to agree the one on the right looks smarter, but I'm not sure why.

Re: I vote right.

[identity profile] mijven.livejournal.com 2005-06-02 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know why (because when Sweetie has a thin face he also looks ill) but I tend to associate thinner faces with intellectuals.
