  • I ordered a paperback from someone at paperbackswap, and they sent me a VHS tape! We don't even have a VCR!
  • Crusades In Europe, a memoir by President Dwight D. Eisenhower about World War II, is listed at Amazon.com under (among other things) "Science Fiction". Admittedly, alternate-history WW2 is a classic science fiction genre, but I think we can accept this one as real-history rather than alternate.

What's the videotape? Perhaps I can save you shipping...

"Somewhere in Time". I'm told it's a good movie. :)

I don't think we need to own it though. Oh well!

The science fiction thing is wacky. You could write to them and point out their error, and they might fix it. I think I managed to get them to fix a listing once.

Yeah, I submitted it as a comment on the page. Unfortunately, "category" isn't one of the easy things to flag as needing fixing, so I don't know how long it will take for the suggestion to wend its way through their checking-stuff department.

A video tape! Was the sender just having a really bad day?

The sender has a bunch of videotapes posted on his bookshelf (which are strictly against the rules), so I think it's more that he's terminally unclear on the concept of what a book is.

D'oh! Have you complained to the people who run the place?

On a related topic, I see you have the Viscount of Adrilanka books and Harrowing the Dragon on your PBS wish list. I can loan you those if you're just wanting to read them, rather than obtain copies for your library.

The people who run the place explicitly don't want to have to adjudicate every "They sent me something that wasn't what I wanted!" dispute and basically say "try to resolve it yourself first". So I sent a message to the guy saying hey, you sent me a VHS tape, which is against the rules and definitely not the paperback you had listed, and I reported him under the forum posting of "report people with inappropriate stuff for trade". That's sufficient for day one. :)

I would happily borrow Harrowing the Dragon; Viscount of Adrilanka I want to keep (and in fact just picked up Phoenix Guards and 500 Years After from PBS when we realized that the copies we thought we had, had been yours. :) )
