Historically for me, Christmas has been for family (and the date of Christmas is extremely variable), while New Years is for friends. This year is probably an extreme example of that; as mentioned, we were in Minnesota/Wisconsin to visit [livejournal.com profile] harrock's family last week, then came back for a week, and now we're off to California for my family. In the (less than complete) week, I got to startle my boss by being in the office for two days, and also there was:
  • Thursday: The emergency reschedule for Auria (because an archtypical Week of Friends Stuff certainly isn't complete without a role-playing game), in which we succeeded in taking down a genuine (if minor) Evil God!
  • Friday: Dinner of Meat and Wine at Grill 23. I kind of have to think of this as a [livejournal.com profile] brilit plan, even though [livejournal.com profile] ilhander gets the credit. I think this is the only restaurant I've been to which has the phenomenon of my wine glass being refilled from moment to moment; I don't drink enough wine to become seriously tipsy, but it definitely exacerbated the festivity. :) And they really do have good steaks.
  • Saturday: Script-reading! Like [livejournal.com profile] kelkyag, I liked "Daniel on a Thursday" probably the best; it was something of a happenstance read, after I wrested control away from [livejournal.com profile] justom, who had digressed into reading the plays to himself. :) Tea in which I was permitted to put sugar, and tea in which I was not. And mysterious snacky snacks.
  • Sunday: The Onion Cellar at the ART. I am crushed. There was no writhing on the floor. There was not even any lying on the floor. A three-year streak, broken by the Dresden Dolls, who barely let the ART actors have any lines, let alone much time to perform their traditional contortions. [livejournal.com profile] harrock kind of lost it at the Wisconsin-accent couple. Then dinner at Rendezvous with [livejournal.com profile] justom and, um, Ireland Girl, and due to some visual miscommunications, our party and [livejournal.com profile] mjperson's party studiously ignored each other. More crushing disappointment, as after spending weeks raving about Rendezvous's amazing service, they briefly forgot us for about ten minutes. (Still, when that's the worst that's happened, it doesn't drop their average too much.) A brief visit to "family hour" of the Valentine Street party, and then the rest of the evening at [livejournal.com profile] dcltdw's.
  • Monday: Tea and Cakes at [livejournal.com profile] twe's, and a nice goofy round of the French Toast guessing game.
I have seen more people in the past four days than I do in many months (though I guess many of them were repeat people, and I shouldn't really count them multiple times). I am full of tasty food and friendship and warm fuzzies. For both auld acquaintances and those newly-met, and for those who I see even less often but are still in my thoughts, I am grateful.

I was just reading about fried egg sandwiches, so I was expecting a recipe.

Where is your family again?

My parents are in Maryland, except the ones who are in Clear Lake. My sister & family are in Sebastopol, the one in California rather than the one in Russia. That's where we are at present. :)
