A couple of weeks ago, an occasional walkin client said he nearly didn't recognize me because I had lost so much weight. (Then he spent the next five minutes getting all apologetic because he thought he'd offended me, oops.). Today, getting my new driver's license, the clerk said I had to take a new picture because I had lost so much weight.

Now, I've lost what I would describe as "some" weight, but certainly not sufficient to call for any superlatives to be attached to it. Not enough that anyone I actually know (including myself) can see it. But total strangers? It's apparently quite obvious to them.

Weird.

People who know you better see you more often and don't notice gradual changes?

Maybe people who know you better have a wider range of images of you to compare to?

I think these are definitely both true. But it's still funny. :) (I can see the difference in my license photos, which makes the most recent example make more sense. "I lost fifteen pounds, all from my face!")
